Charlotte Taylor is the Music Committee Chair.
The Music Committee works with the Music Director (UUFF is without a Music Director at present time) to provide music that adds to the worship experience of the Fellowship at all occasions. It is the goal of the committee to involve as many people as are interested in the choir, committee activities, volunteer musical talent and special ensembles.
During this time without a minister or music director, the Piano Accompanist, Rhimmon Simchy-Gross, selects incidental music (prelude, offertory, meditation, and postlude). These are primarily taken from the common practice period repertoire and performed by the director on the piano. For some events, lighter-spirited music may be used (i.e. folk, popular ballads, light rock, film scores, etc.).
The adult choir performs monthly during the academic year. The music performed by the choir is chosen by the director with special and careful attention given to content, aesthetics and ability of the singers.
The music department also forms smaller ensembles (e.g. a women’s vocal ensemble, a family choir, etc.). Several times a year the director brings in outside talent (ideally, once a month). Recorded music is used on rare occasions. In addition, the music department contributes to other events and services: the annual stewardship dinner, Chalika, Hanukkah, Christmas Eve, and other activities as needed.
