RE Committee Mission Statement:
The REC (religious education committee) collaborates with the DRE (director of religious education) in creating a faith development program which strengthens and clarifies the ethical, moral and spiritual lives of children and youth. We offer this program in a safe, nurturing, spiritual environment where questions are encouraged and UU principles and purposes are explored. The REC does so by making and following policies; creating, reviewing and evaluating programs; and securing the resources (volunteers, space, budget) to meet the plan’s, as well as the congregation’s mission, vision and goals.
We create a covenant that guides us to do transformative work together.
We organize ourselves effectively to honor and respect each other’s generous gifts of time and energy.
We dream for the future while grounded in the details and necessities of each year.
We remember to have fun and to be every grateful for each other and the congregation we serve.
The DRE will offer mentoring, training and support as will the RE chair. You will be accountable primarily to them and to the committee, but also to the congregation, and ultimately the congregation’s mission and vision.
Time Commitment:
- 1-2 year term
- 1 meeting each month (1-2 hours)
- One ½ day retreat/year
- 2-3 hours/event: commitment to help with special event(s) such as teacher orientation, parent orientation, etc.

Basic Responsibilities:
1. Attend monthly REC meetings and yearly retreat
2. Collaborate with DRE in:
a. budget creation and monitoring
b. recruiting RE teachers for preschool-12th grades; supporting teachers and planning appreciation events
c. establishing the yearly program plan, theme, curricula and calendar for regular and special RE classes for children and youth
d. assessment of and decision-making about other resources such as supplies, space, equipment
e. creating, implementing, and evaluating mission, vision and goals
f. planning and assisting with RE year-end events (youth service, teacher honoring, Mother’s Day)
g. planning and assisting with teacher and parent orientations
h. providing nurturing care for our youngest children in the nursery setting
3. Exhibit support and enthusiasm for the RE program to parents, board members and the congregation
4. Review, update and evaluate policies
5. Provide input to RE chair in creation of annual report
