Sunday Service
Mendy Knott, award-winning poet and playwright, will lead the service this Sunday, July 25th. With poetry, prose and music, Mendy will explore commitment in all its forms – to a person, a cause, an ideal, an art form, to friends, to family – because “commitment continues to fascinate and amaze me with its power.” Renée Janski will also be singing.
This week Camp UU answers the question we’ve all been asking: Can Chickens Drive Tractors? This session, led by Charity Lewis and Kathy Skaggs, will teach kids about producing food more sustainably by growing chickens in the backyard.
Next week is the Camp UU Clean Stream Challenge, led by Janet Titus. UUFF is lucky to have a year-round stream on our property. We’ll discover what happens to waterways that are neglected, ignored, or hidden. Note: Wear old clothes, bring work gloves and rain boots, if possible – we will be getting wet and maybe dirty!

Free yoga classes continue on Thursday evenings from 6:30-8pm. These are sponsored by our RE community and taught by Jessica Jackson. Please bring a yoga mat if you have one and any props you prefer. Jessica has a limited supply of extra mats available. Also, please come a little early to help move chairs in the sanctuary as needed. Childcare may be available if there is enough interest. Contact Joy at uuffdre@yahoo.com for more information.

Do you enjoy coffee and snacks after the service? Please volunteer to make coffee and set out snacks. It’s easy and fun! Volunteers are needed for every Sunday in June, July and August. There’s a sign up sheet in the lobby by the snack table. Sign up with a friend or make a new friend. Instructions are clearly posted in the kitchen. Reimbursement funds are available.

UUFF Book Group begins August 19th with two “Meet & Greet” events. Book group will meet at 1pm and again at 7pm at the home of Earl & Nancy McShane, 3524 N. Dustin Way in Fayetteville. Both the daytime and the evening group will continue to meet on the third Thursday of each month.
Instead of reading a book for August, participants will discuss some of their favorite books and the “classic books” they admit having not read. This informal meeting will let everyone get to know one another and choose the books we’ll be reading for the next several months. Contact UUFF Book Group facilitator Nancy McShane at 442-2114 for more information.

UUFF 2011 Masterpiece Art Calendar! Join the fun in creating an original UUFF art calendar for this exciting fund raiser. Select a famous work of art and recreate it by selecting props, dressing and posing for photographer, Angela Peace. Your photographic representation will be used as a calendar page just in time for holiday gifting. Be creative; form a group to work as a team – this project has few “rules”. Contact Susan Schroeder (shs49@cox.net or 521-2644) with your art selection ASAP to allow ample time for photography and production.

Have you ever considered teaching? Being a part of a UUFF teaching team is a way to deepen your understanding of our faith, mentor young UUs, and engage more fully in the life and community of this fellowship. Opportunities for teaching younger children as well as teens are available. Teaching is not for everyone. But it is extremely rewarding to know you are making a difference in the lives of children and planting seeds for the future of Unitarian Universalism. Classes begin in the Fall. If you are ready for the challenge, or want to know more, contact Joy at uuffdre@yahoo.com

♦We are in need of Greeters throughout the summer. Sign-up sheets are available in the foyer.  The list of Greeter duties is posted inside the cabinet in the foyer.  There is always someone more experienced you can ask so don’t be afraid to sign up. Contact Charlotte Taylor at chtaylo@uark.edu for Greeter information.

♦Whether you’re celebrating, honoring someone special or remembering someone who was dear to you, flowers share your message and bring beauty to us all.  The flower sign-up sheet is posted in the foyer.

Office Hours
Nancy Ward is back from vacation and regular office hours have resumed. Thank you to Courtney Montgomery-Burnett for all her help during the break.

Please note that new office hours will begin August 2nd. Due to the 2010/11 budget shortfall, the Administrator’s salary hours have been reduced to 20 hours per week.  Office hours have been adjusted accordingly. The new schedule is:

  • Monday 10-3
  • Tuesday 1-4
  • Wednesday – closed
  • Thursday 10-3
  • Friday 10-1

The remaining 3 hours are “flex” time before and after the posted times.
